Give it a Good Kick

November 19, 2010

My NaKniSweMo sweater is coming along slowly but surely. It’s worked in the round from the bottom up and cabled all over. The texture of the cables in the old fashioned yarn I’m using are making me think of tree bark, and googling around for tree pictures this morning I found these, which I’m inordinately fond of:

Polyalthia Longifolia – photo by kwangyong on flickr

They look almost human to me – like a clump of shaggy uncles wandering through the wrong end of the park, looking for the backgammon tables. They’re a tropical tree called Polyalthia Longifolia or False Ashoka, and according to legend (as found in Wikipedia, which makes it doubly legend), they won’t bloom unless kicked in the springtime by a beautiful woman.

beautiful woman: Whack!

ashoka tree: Bloom…

What a great analogy to your knitting. The picture is beautiful. I can’t wait to see the sweater!

Sweater is coming along slowly but surely… though your awesome colorwork vest puts it to shame! :) I’ll try to put up some more photos this weekend.
